We came to Middle Grounds Grill for my dad's birthday and right away discovered mojito Monday! Half off all mojitos and there's a good selection of them based on the Bacardi rum flavors. The server we had, Greg, was on top of his game. He was very helpful and when we ordered the calamari he altered it for us so we had the option of both sauces and they were put on the side to keep the calamari crunchy. The calamari was extremely fresh. In fact, all of the fish we had was fresh.
My dad got the grouper florentine, very tender and well done. My mom got the wasabi tuna, but again Greg altered it to have the wasabi on the side so it didn't overpower the dish. And I myself got the wahoo and bacon shrimp from the specials menu, which had a fresh corn salsa and well cooked wahoo.
I had informed Greg earlier on that it was my dads birthday, and he was more than happy to bring him out a special dessert at the end on the house. The dessert was a pancake dessert with whipped cream and strawberries. It was so unexpected, but he explained the story behind it and it made it all the better. It was a lovely dessert and a lovely evening. Highly recommended.
He claims he has never had a bad meal at the Middle Grounds Grill, and I tend to believe him (tho he is much easier to please than I am). We usually sit at the bar but the bar was packed, like it usually is when we got there so we opted for a table near the fish tank. You have to at least walk by it, Its worth it.
We started out with the Middle Grounds Grill Grouper Nuggets on Jasmine rice for an appetizer. So light and fluffy and very fresh. Then onto the Caesar salad and hot rolls. Next came the duck over a cherry sauce with mashed potatoes and vegetables. All fantastic! Of course I tried to save room for dessert. Shane recommended the Key Lime Tower. I've never had anything like it before. Now I need someone to drag my butt home.
My friend and I decided to try Middle Grounds Grill late on a weeknight during our vacation in the area. It was raining outside, and because it was late, the place was not very crowded. We walked in and were seated as requested in the bar area. We were immediately acknowledged by our server. She told us about the beverage specials, and we ordered our drinks. We reviewed the menu and had questions. When our server came back, she was very friendly and answered all our questions.
We placed our order, and did not have to wait long for our food to be delivered. We started with the Calamari appetizer. My friend and I order this quite often when we are together at other locations, and I don't think I've ever had it cooked better. I ordered the Octopus salad, and my friend had the Mango Nut Crusted Grouper for dinner. My friend said her meal was perfect. After taking the first bite of octopus, I thought maybe I read the prices incorrectly.
This was one of the best meals I have ever tasted! The food here is only part of the reason I gave this five stars. Our server was so pleasant and attentive. We asked her about the meaning of the name "Middle Grounds", and she explained it to us. I look forward to visiting this place again when I am in the area.
It was really good though. The trio app is great. I got the Parmesan and Panko crusted mahi mahi with prosciutto wrapped shrimp which was all pretty good. I think the fish was a little undercooked though but I don't get mahi mahi often enough to know how it should be cooked. My husband got the seafood pasta which had a lot of seafood and was a really good portion. Overall I would go back again for a special night out with the prices."For someone who previously thought Salt Rock Grill "
For someone who previously thought Salt Rock Grill was the "be all and end all" as far as any sort of "special" dining to be found on the Pinellas beaches, the spectacular meals I've enjoyed at Black Pearl (Dunedin), Chill (St. Pete Beach) and now Middle Grounds Grill in Treasure Island over the past three months kinda make me want to shove Salt Rock Grill to the ground and kick sand in its face. Poser! Okay...I'll stop hatin'. I do still actually like Salt Rock. ;) Howevah ...if you're looking for a higher-end steak and seafood experience, Middle Grounds Grill is about half as expensive as Salt Rock and almost twice as good. The interior offers a sleek and sophisticated coastal theme that is very pleasing. You're reminded that you're at the beach, but you needn't fear any turtle shell salt shakers or Key West directional signs...it actually exudes a bit of an upscale SW Florida vibe. Underdog, being the accountant that he is, quickly seized on the Deal Of The Century wine offerin ...
